Fiona Bastow obtained her degree in Fine Arts (Painting) from RMIT and has
exhibited in solo and group shows both in Australia and in the US (where she studied
whilst on a university exchange scholarship).

Fiona has worked in various positions
in the visual arts sector including the art facilitator at Darwin Prison, coordinator of
many community arts projects and more recently in her own commercial gallery.
After taking a decade long break to raise a family, Fiona is tentative but excited to
step back into her studio to pick up where she left off with her painting practice.

Artist Statement
I’m not really surprised to find that, despite having a long hiatus from painting, I find
myself drawn to the same themes that have always interested me … which is the
natural world and how it influences us. My interest in the colours, patterns and
relationships found in nature continues to persist. And as always I find myself
particularly drawn to the jagged beauty of the Australian landscape with its craggy
sculptural plants such as banksias and hakeas.
I can’t seem to shake my love of oils and love playing with veils of saturated colour.
