David Larwill (1956–2011), an Australian artist renowned for his vibrant and distinctive style characterized by bold colors, stylized figures, and simplified forms.
While primarily known as a figurative expressionist painter, Larwill also excelled as a draughtsman and printmaker, creating drawings, watercolors, ceramics, sculptures, as well as etchings, lithographs, and screenprints.
Over his 30-year career, Larwill showcased his talents in over 25 solo exhibitions and numerous group shows. He played a crucial role in establishing Roar Studios in Brunswick Street, Fitzroy. Throughout the 1990s and 2000s, Larwill's international acclaim grew through new commissions, exhibitions, and awards. His work is featured in prominent collections, including The British Museum, London, the National Gallery of Australia, the National Gallery of Victoria, and the Museum of Contemporary Art, Sydney.
